Very sad news indeed. Dave was a wonderful man, always had a friendly smile and a real competitor in a Lightning. He will be missed by all who knew him.

David Workum was the big brother I never had. So many of my Leland memories have him in them. I can't tell you how much he will be missed by me and all of Leland. Tom joins me in sending our sympathy to Joanie and all the children, to Lee and Nicki and the cousins. I'm so glad he got back to Leland one last time. It's a sad day.

I just walked down and lowered the Yacht Club flag to half mast in honor of Dave...it will fly that way all day tomorrow (Sunday) on the Lee Workum Sr. memorial flag pole. Dave was one of those rare individuals who ALWAYS had time to look you in the eye, say hi, and truly make you feel like there was no one he'd rather be with at that moment. Mary Jo and I will certainly miss that wonderful smile and the twinkle in his eyes...

What a superb job you do in chronicling the lives and pulse of the town we all love so much. Your efforts are even more appreciated when, as you did for Dave, you shine your light on the "why" Leland is such a very special place. When one thinks of Leland, it's often in a picture... maybe fishtown, the Manitous, an orchard in full fruit. But I think we'd all agree that that's just the "icing." The real fabric of our community is its people. Your tapestry of Dave so well shows that. He was certainly one of our finest. Thank you Dave. Thank you Keith.

I loved Big Dave. He always had a warm hug and a great sense of humor. He was a favorite among all of my friends dads. And a friend to us as well. We will miss him dearly. Love to all of the Workums. The Adams

There is a big void in Leland. David was a mentor to so many. My heart is hurting for all his family. I've been there, done this and an ear that has gone this path helps.s you all.

Though there is so much we all love that is Leland; the sunsets, the lakes, the trees, the harbor that which makes it truly magnificent are the people. The joys we have of spending generations together, makes the pain of loss so great in our hearts. David's legacy is in the lives he touched, those of his family and those of us who he reached out to in all those special Leland ways over the many years. David, the Lightening fleet in Leland will never be the same - But it is surely growing in Heaven! God Bless you and your family.

David was the very definition of Leland for as long as I can remember. We always associate the Workum family with Leland and will miss seeing David in one of his many colorful blazers at parties and at the Country Club. Our thoughts go out to Joanie, David, Linda, Ellie and Debbie and all the Workums. He will truely be missed. Robert, Kathy and Brandon W.

Another one of our old timers has gone to the sail boat races in heaven. The Workums have been part of Leland for over 60 years. Needless to say we will all miss Dave. But more generations are coming up.

Several of us were on the 16th fairway at the Club when the rescue squad showed up at the Workums and we had that sinking feeling that David was gone; it was quiet the rest of the way in as we finished our round!
I've always felt that David was our conscience at the Country Club, the Yacht Club, and with events such as the village celebrations on July 4th. I didn't agree with David on every issue he raised, but he made you think about what you felt and caused one to form an opinion as to what was appropriate. He will be missed!
Our condolences to Joan and the Workum family.

I spent nearly as much time at the Workum cottage growing up as I spent at my parents cottage. Mr. Workum was like a second father to me and my sister Marnie. He was a great father figure and later a great friend. He always had a pleasant smile and a firm handshake to share. I am blessed to have so many fond memories of him.

We feel so sad to have lost Mr. Workum in our Land of Delight. He was instrumental in making our special Leland what it is and forever will be. I am thankful that he was influential in OUR children's lives as well as the lives of my parents and many members of my family. I will forever remember him as a true lover of life, and one of the BEST Leland Dad's!! Love to all your family, Mr. Workum. PEACE.

Dave was so much fun to serve on the LCC board with...always a smile...always positive. I still picture him with a paint roller in hand and green paint all over his clothes from painting the fencing around the tennis courts. Losing my Dad several years ago, he always would remind me about what a great guy he was... I will remind Linda, David and Elli what a super guy their Dad was!
