One Year Ago... Red Sky At Sunrise

Vol lll  #171
Report #1266 ~  Photo: #14205
6:00 a.m. ~ 58º ~ Fair; Wind: SSE at 5 mph ~ Humidity: 63%
Sunrise is at 7:29 a.m. ~ Ave. Low is 48º ~ Record Low is 30º (TVC-1973)
3:00 p.m. ~ 82º ~ Fair; Wind: SW at 8 mph ~ Humidity: 49%
Sunset is at 7:42 p.m. ~ Ave. High is 69º ~ Record High is 81º (TVC-1989)

When out on the road searching for beauty on a nice warm "end of summer" day, it's not always obvious that much of the beauty is the roadway itself.  This is especially true on the back roads of Northport, where you can drive for miles without visual confrontation with anything other than roadside trees, orchards, barns and turn of the century farm houses.  These are roads that you can drive at 35 to 40 mph without irritating anyone.  I can't do that where I live, Leland, because Leland is a one road town. Everyone drives 55 mph into town and 55 mph out of town.  I'm not complaining, being a transplant from the Chicago area where 3 lane freeways move at 10 mph, I'm very happy here at any speed.

Wow. What a picture. These look like giant "money trees". I was still thinking about the racoon I spotted in my neighbors barn when I was about 10 yrs old, up high on a rafter, looking down at my friend and me and here's this fantastic picture!

ahh....on the way to Barb's for a hot cup of coffee and a cinnamon twist....those silver green trees and that bountiful orchard....another great Leelanau corner.

Another beautiful 'live in the moment' reminder. Thanks, again and forever, Mr. B. :-)

Thanks Rick for the water temp information. I was actually looking for it a little closer in shore. It seemed quite warm today. Maybe warmest of the summer.

What the heck, here's the whole thing: "Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amoenam Circumspice" or "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you." (Michigan's State Motto)

In regards to the picture from the "top of the loaf" from yesterday: Any breaking news on the Sugarloaf front? Just trying to stay informed. Thanks

I particularly like this one, Keith, I can put it up as my wallpapper and pretend that is where I'm going after work instead of deeper into the (really super ugh) city.

Bob- there are things happening at the Loaf.... but we MUST be patient... you all will be the first to know! stay tuned and keep the faith!
